Collegiate Partnership

Students enrolled in Green River’s Associate in Applied Sciences degree for Professional Pilot or Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Aeronautical Science, can receive their flight training through their partnership with Safety in Motion Flight Center. Students enroll into Green River College’s aviation degree program of their choosing and attend in-flight classes at Safety in Motion. This partnership allows students to receive an academic degree and access to additional funding streams to help finance their education and training goals.

GREEN RIVER COLLEGE AVIATION PROGRAM

Program Advantages

Green River College’s aviation program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP)" minimum hours to meet the employment minimum for the regional airlines. The regional airlines require applicants to meet the ATP minimum of 1,500 hours of total time. Completing the R-ATP program through Green River and the flight training requirements at Safety in Motion, graduates of the AAS program can be hired with 1,250 hours of flight experience, and those graduating from the BAS program can be hired with as little as 1,000 hours! Additionally, colleges have additional funding options available to students through various loan programs and federal student financial aid.

Safety in Motion Flight Center has training facilities in Puyallup at the Pierce County/Thun Field Airport and in Olympia at the Olympia Regional Airport.  Just pick the location that is most convenient for you!

EMBRY RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY WORLDWIDE

Program Details

Safety in Motion’s partnership with Embry-Riddle Worldwide provides students with an option to pursue a Bachelor’s in Aeronautics degree by attending either their online or hybrid classes at either their Seattle or Tacoma campuses. Students that acquire their Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-engine Ratings, can get up to 34 credits applied toward their degree.

Program Benefits

Embry-Riddle Worldwide offers students a number of degree options and specializations. This college accepts VA funding for college tuition and Basic Allowance for Housing/Quarters (BAH), but funds are not able to be used for flight training.

Boeing Company Education Assistance Program:  IAM/Boeing

Program Details

Safety in Motion Flight Center has partnered with Boeing in support of their Education Assistance Program, which is one of IAM/Boeing Joint Programs' most recognized and successful services for the IAM-represented employee. Whether you plan to continue in your present work or seek a career change, Education Assistance (EA) provides both active and laid-off IAM-represented employees opportunities for training and education.

Guidelines/Overview

All IAM-represented employees in Districts 751 (Puget Sound) and W24 (Portland) who are active on the start date of their courses can apply and receive a voucher for the full tuition for training at accredited educational or training institutions, or up to the IAM/Boeing Joint Programs funding limit per calendar year for non-accredited, but IAM/Boeing Joint Programs-approved, training. IAM/Boeing Joint Programs will continuously monitor the content and quality of approved training courses. In addition, active employees completing an associate, bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree receive Boeing stock units. Employees also can take flight training through IAM/Boeing Joint Programs Education Assistance and receive the special incentive payments available to all Boeing employees once they solo or earn their pilot certificate.

Horizon/Alaska Airlines Pilot Development Program

Program Details

The Horizon Air Pilot Development Program gives you a great start on a career with Horizon Air. After successful completion of Private Pilot training, interested applicants are interviewed by Horizon Airlines for consideration of acceptance into their Pilot Development Program. Successful applicants complete training at Safety in Motion and either gain experience working as a Certified Flight Instructor, fly with a Part 135 program partner, or build required flight time in some other fashion. Upon successful completion of training and meeting the ATP or R-ATP minimums, applicants will begin training at Horizon Air as a first officer.

Application Process

Candidates may apply six weeks before school visits through the Horizon Air job portal at no cost. Applicants will be contacted for interview once eligibility is verified.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Private Pilot Certificate

  • 1st Class Medical

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • FCC Restricted Radiotelephone permit

  • 21 Years of age

  • Authorized to work in the US

  • Have and maintain a valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the US and Canada

Flight Training

Once accepted into Development Program, candidates complete training with Safety In Motion. This intensive training program requires regular flight training participation. Upon completion the Instrument Rating, candidates are provided $5,000, and after completion of the Commercial Pilot certification, candidates are provided an additional $7,500 to be applied to training costs, all in exchange for a two-year commitment flying for Horizon Air. $12,500 total toward your training will help quite a bit!

Horizon Air Transition

Upon meeting ATP or R-ATP minimums, candidates are given a class date at Horizon Air. New hire bonuses are provided upon successful completion of ground school and may be applied towards flight training costs. New hire training consists of twelve weeks ground, simulator and flight training culminating in ATP exam to fly the Q400 or E175 aircraft as a professional pilot.

Alaska Pathways Program

If you have your sights set on flying for Alaska, the Pilot Pathways Program makes it a no-hassle proposition. Alaska Airlines targets to hire 30-50% of its new hires from Horizon Air.

How it Works:

  • Be hired as a first officer for Horizon Air.

  • Fly with Horizon, working toward Alaska minimums. After a successful Pathways interview, Alaska will perform quarterly reviews of your performance.

  • Once you meet minimums and perform to Alaska’s standards, you’ll be offered a seat with Alaska automatically (in seniority order), and slotted for training.
